HOWEVER, whereas in times past it was relatively easy to get your site into high ranking positions on search engines, this is not now the case. The reason is that the search engines that matter (Google matters most), are now wanting to make money by selling sponsored links which appear at the top right of all their search pages. To do this they make it extremely difficult for sites to reach and maintain high ranking positions, so in the case of businesses with a lot of competitors where there can be 1000's of sites all jockeying for top spot, it is all but impossible to get there without investing a lot of time & money just trying.

There are many companies who claim to be able to get you to the top of the search engines if you pay an advance fee, they may infact get you to the top of engines that nobody much looks at, but it is unlikely they will get you to the top of Google of Ask Jeeves for instance. Although we could make claims to do the same thing, we don't, & won't give any guarantees about search engine rankings.
